IF YOUR CONTROLS SYSTEM IS BASED ON TRIDIUM’S NIAGARA FRAMEWORK® AND THE JACE IS NOT RUNNING THE MOST CURRENT NIAGARA VERSION-N4—THEN YOU NEED TO KNOW THE FOLLOWING:

ISSUE:

The most current version of all traditional web browsers no longer supports Java.  If your building automation system uses Java for the user interface, this means that there will be a day in the near future when your controls system will not be accessible through a web browser.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO?

Upgrade the JACE to the latest platform—Niagara 4 (N4). This platform uses HTML5 formatting, as opposed to Java. The user interface will then be accessible from any web browser and will be viewable over mobile devices.

After you upgrade, put a controls software maintenance agreement in place.  Tridium will continue to support this platform, but is going to require an agreement if the system is to be kept current with the latest releases of N4.  If there is any lapse, all missed agreements will have to be purchased in order for any more upgrades to take place.
